mdPV — simple Markdown preview

A fast Markdown reader for macOS. Press Space on any .md file in Finder for an instant Quick Look preview, or open documents for a side-by-side editor with synced scrolling. There is no web view anywhere in the app, so previews appear without the white flash common in Markdown apps that wrap a browser.

Quick Look, built in

Press Space in Finder to preview .md, .markdown, .mdown, .mkdn and .mkd without launching anything.

Text that behaves like text

Select and copy across paragraphs, list items and table rows in one go, with formatting intact. Free, forever.

Diagrams and math, natively

Mermaid flowcharts and LaTeX equations are drawn by native Swift — no browser, no JavaScript, no network.

Editing, unlocked once

A one-time purchase adds the source editor, synced scrolling, autosave and ⌘S. Preview stays free.

What it renders

Headings, lists, task lists, tables, links, images, blockquotes and syntax-highlighted code blocks, using the GitHub Flavored Markdown style sheet. Inline $…$ math sits inside its sentence; $$…$$ display math gets its own centred block. Mermaid covers flowchart, sequence, state, class, entity-relationship and XY charts.

Privacy

mdPV reads the documents you choose to open and never sends them anywhere. No analytics SDK, no telemetry, no account. The app is sandboxed and only requests user-selected file access, plus the network permission StoreKit needs for purchases.

Requires macOS 15.6 or later. Apple silicon and Intel Macs supported.
